A hero is someone who has shown great courage or selflessness in a life-threatening situation. They may have saved lives, rescued animals or simply exhibited compassion for their fellow citizens. Heroes are often seen as role models for others, especially younger people. A hero is also a character in a movie or story who goes on an epic journey to defeat demons, save the day and win the love of a princess. The hero monomyth was first developed by Joseph Campbell and explains the idea that most heroes go through a similar journey to overcome obstacles, defeat enemies, and rescue an innocent.

The series won the Rev. Mychal Judge Heart of New York award from the New York Press Club, which honors journalism that uplifts and celebrates New York City.
The Peoria Chiefs and Uftring Auto Group are looking for local military veterans who are heroes in their communities to salute at 20 weekend Chiefs games this season with the Hero of the Day promotion. Each hero selected will receive 10 tickets to a game, $100 in food vouchers to be used at concession stands or specialty food carts, a Chiefs hat, and on-field recognition during the game.
